Protecting Growing Volumes Of Medical Images
Healthcare organizations today face many competing priorities. While patient care and patient safety remain paramount, healthcare providers have added imperatives to reduce costs, comply with federal regulations and juggle both paper and electronic patient information. One area of the hospital where caregivers and administrators feel these pressures is with managing radiological films and diagnostic images. One key challenge is that privacy and retention regulations force hospitals to store images for a set number of years, occupying physical and digital space that could be used more profitably. Outsourcing provides several benefits to managing medical images, from relocating entire film libraries to off-site locations, to film digitization and electronic delivery directly into Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS), to disaster recovery and long-term archiving of medical images.
