AZ Monica Deploys AeroScout's Wi-Fi RFID Solution To Help Enhance Patient Care And Safety

At Belgian Hospital, AeroScout and Skillteam Collaborate to Implement Temperature Monitoring and Patient Elopement Applications

Dusseldorf, Germany --(Marketwire) - AeroScout, the leading provider of Unified Asset Visibility for the healthcare industry, today announced that AZ Monica has deployed AeroScout's Real-Time Location System to help improve hospital business processes. AeroScout and Skillteam implemented Wi-Fi RFID solutions to automate temperature monitoring and detect patient elopement, and are in the process of expanding to include patient flow tracking and staff safety applications. Through this wide variety of uses, AZ Monica is increasing efficiency and enhancing patient and staff safety.

AZ Monica is a 500-bed general hospital in Belgium that employs more than 1,000 staff members. It offers a full range of services at two locations, one in Antwerp and the other in Deurne. AZ Monica also has a number of specific specialties including an eye clinic, pain clinic and sleep center.

"We needed a reliable solution that improved efficiency and also enabled us to focus even more on patient and staff safety," said Dirk Van de Vyver, Campus Director of AZ Monica. "A few months after the implementation of the first phase of AeroScout's applications, the hospital was convinced of the many advantages of the new solution. We look forward to growing our relationship with AeroScout and to continuing to strengthen our hospital's operational performance."

AZ Monica is using AeroScout's Temperature Monitoring solution to automate the monitoring of refrigerators, which contain medications, vaccines, blood and other critical items. Wi-Fi Temperature Tags measure refrigerator temperatures on a defined interval and transmit the data wirelessly to AeroScout's MobileView software. If a temperature reading deviates from the range specified as safe, alerts are sent to appropriate staff members. This saves clinicians the time of manual temperature monitoring and also improves patient safety.

Additionally, the hospital is using AeroScout's Patient Elopement solution to notify staff when at-risk patients leave defined areas. Alerts are sent to nurses on their DECT phones to draw attention to potential issues. Nurses can then respond quickly and in the best interest of their patients' safety and care.

AZ Monica is also in the process of rolling out Patient Flow and Staff Safety applications. Clinicians will use Wi-Fi Tags with call buttons, which can be triggered to alert other staff members in emergency situations. Alerts will be accompanied by the real-time location of individuals requiring assistance. The AeroScout solution will also track and monitor patient flow in the Operating Room department.

"AeroScout is proud to be working with AZ Monica to help improve patient care and staff safety at its hospital," said Wim Verduyn, Director of Benelux and France at AeroScout. "The variety of applications at AZ Monica shows the breadth of value that AeroScout is providing to hospitals around the world."
