BTS 2000 System

The BTS 2000 System is a software-driven medical imaging system designed specifically for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer. It allows treating physicians to take ultrasound images (including guided biopsies) of the prostate in order to determine if a tumor is present. If a malignancy is detected, the system then assists the medical team in planning and performing the radiation seed implant therapy known as `Brachytherapy'.

Benefits of treating prostate cancer with `Brachytherapy' include the sparing of critical structures close to the tumor, the amount of tissue damage and the brevity of treatment (hours vs. days). This method of treatment also provides patients with a much lower risk of developing incontinence, impotence and rectal damage.

The system not only allows doctors to perform the treatment planning function on the system itself (as opposed to on a separate piece of equipment as is now the case) but also to easily communicate with other members of the patients' medical team by sending images and data via the Internet. This system also has the ability to work with the newest high dose radiation (HDR) techniques.
