eClinicalWorks Helps Community Health Centers Accomplish Electronic Health Records Initiatives

Unified EMR and PM Solution Enables Community Health Centers (CHCs) to Efficiently Manage Practices and Better Serve Patients

Westborough, MA - eClinicalWorks, a provider of unified ambulatory clinical information systems, announced its initiative to make electronic health records a viable option for Community Health Centers (CHCs). Since beginning this initiative in late-2005, the company has modified its unified Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Practice Management (PM) solution to meet the unique billing and reporting requirements and has signed six separate CHCs with several additional agreements in progress.

"Urban Health Plan has multiple locations in the South Bronx providing numerous specialties, making it extremely difficult to centrally manage all of the patient data we receive," said Alison Connelly-Flores, RPA-C, EHR project manager for Urban Health Plan. "Our federal funding is reliant on the reports we submit and the quality of that data. eClinicalWorks understands this and has worked closely with us to make sure our EMR has all of the reporting and data collection capabilities we need to ensure there are no interruptions in the services we are able to provide. The company has also had us quickly implemented and trained so providers could spend more time with patients instead of learning a new technology."

CHCs are federally-funded health centers designed to provide high-quality care to patients with limited financial resources. Reliant on federal grant money, CHCs have stringent reporting and billing requirements that apply only to this type of center. eClinicalWorks has worked closely with CHCs to enhance its product according to these federal mandates, ensuring there is no interruption in the funding that supports their work. Using eClinicalWorks, CHCs will be able to streamline internal processes between multiple locations and promote patient safety while reducing costs.

"After extensive examination of White River Rural Health Center's current processes, we realized that we needed to implement a unified EMR and PM solution to better streamline our practices," said Greg Wolverton, CIO for White River Rural Health Center. "With 20 locations that are spread over 5600 square miles, eClinicalWorks provides a unified solution that is flexible enough to fit our specific requirements. That mixed with a superior level of customer service and the commitment shown by the entire eClinicalWorks team, made this an easy decision. Using eClinicalWorks increases the quality of care our patients already receive, bringing it to an even higher level."

"Community Health Centers perform a very necessary function in our society with only a portion of the resources that private clinics possess," said Girish Kumar Navani, president of eClinicalWorks. "It is a difficult situation. Those that can benefit most from streamlined processes are less able to implement the necessary technology without first proving the return on investment. As with all of our clients, eClinicalWorks is doing everything it can to make its integrated EMR and PM solution an important resource to meet the requirements for these centers."

eClinicalWorks' EMR solution enables CHCs to manage patient flow, immediately access patient records in-house or remotely, electronically communicate with the referring physicians and securely send consult notes and clinical data. Users can easily access and review complete patient histories, past visits, current medications, allergies, labs and charts. Integrated with EMR is eClinicalWorks Practice Management, designed to instantly streamline the medical billing process. The accompanying Patient Portal allows patients and physicians to communicate easily, safely, and securely over the Internet for aspects of their care including appointments, lab results and statements.
