The EBT scanner uses the company's patented Electron Beam Tomography technology to perform unique high volume imaging applications for physicians specializing in the fields of Cardiology, Pulmonology, and Gastroenterology together with general radiological whole body imaging. It is intended to function as a diagnostic X-ray system to produce two- and three-dimensional images of human anatomical cavities, using cross-sectional images reconstructed from X-ray transmission data from the same axial plane taken at different angles. The scanner permits radiologic visualization of such cavities or vessels during or after injection of or filling with a contrast medium or inflation with gases such as air or carbon dioxide. In addition, it is specifically intended and cleared to perform as a diagnostic X-ray system permitting unique radiologic visualizations of the heart, arteries, lung and colon.
The company recently received 510(k) market clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market the scanner specifically to perform Electron Beam Colonography (EB-Colonography), which is a minimally invasive procedure permitting visualization of the interior surface of the colon from the perspective of a virtual "fly-through" mode. EB-Colonography is less invasive, more rapid and less costly than current optical colonoscopy.
