Kentucky's Baptist Healthcare Rolls Out ADC In-Building Wireless In Hospitals Statewide

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ADC (NASDAQ: ADCT) (www.adc.com) today announced that Baptist Healthcare Services, Inc., (BHSI), a major healthcare provider in Kentucky, has selected its InterReach Fusion® in-building cellular systems to deliver strong multi-carrier wireless voice and data services in its hospitals.

Following a successful experience with an InterReach Fusion system in its Baptist Healthcare East Hospital in Louisville, BHSI has now deployed ADC systems at Baptist Regional Hospital (Corbin, KY), Western Baptist Hospital (Paducah, KY), and Baptist Northeast Hospital (LaGrange, KY). In addition, BHSI has added an InterReach Fusion system to a 360,000 square-foot expansion of the Baptist East facility, and now plans to deploy another system at its new, 250,000 square-foot Surgical Outpatient Facility in Louisville. In all, ADC systems will provide reliable cellular coverage for AT&T and Verizon users over some two million square feet of healthcare space for BHSI.

BHSI selected ADC's InterReach Fusion system because its multi-carrier capabilities reduced costs and deployment complexity, and because the system's unique active architecture ensures consistent signal output at each remote antenna while providing full end-to-end alarming and management.

"We wanted to improve mobile communications for our physicians to save time and increase their productivity while in our hospitals, and the ADC system delivered the best performance with the lowest costs," said Jim Laval, manager of corporate IT for BHSI. "After a highly positive reaction to our initial deployment at Baptist East two years ago, we went ahead and standardized on the system throughout our hospitals, and we are now rolling out a medical records application to further boost productivity."

In addition to voice services, BHSI is using the new in-building cellular infrastructure to support Mobilecare Rounding, a new clinical information system from McKesson that allows physicians to use smart phones and wireless PDAs to access patient records and updated test results. In the future, Laval hopes to enhance the application to allow doctors to input charting notes.

"ADC is the leading provider of in-building wireless systems in healthcare facilities because our system is designed to perform better than others in demanding hospital environments," said John Spindler, vice president of product management for ADC. "By expanding InterReach Fusion throughout its facilities, Baptist Healthcare has built a robust infrastructure that will help it deliver the best in medical services for many years to come."
