Innovasive Devices Inc. Labral Anchor is a device used to tack torn tissue back to the underlying bone in an anatomically correct position. The instrumentation enables the surgeon to grasp the tissue and reattach it firmly to the bone through a small puncture site in the shoulder. This tack-like device expands under the surface of the bone, creating tissue-holding strength capable of tolerating the forces applied during patient rehabilitation. The anchor utilizes a bioabsorbable, floating head, which compresses the tissue to the bone in an anatomically correct position. The floating head replaces conventional sutures as a means of securing the tissue to the bone and enables the surgeon to more easily perform the surgery in a minimally invasive arthroscopic fashion, with improved tissue-to-bone compression and subsequent healing. The bioabsorbable floating head is constructed of a material which will degrade to a gel-like' consistency within a few months after implantation and eventually resorb over time.
