Lenox Hill Hospital Chooses A4 Health Systems For HealthMatics ED And Canopy Care Management Software Solutions
Hospital is First to Electronically Connect Emergency & Case Management Departments for Better Patient Care & Throughput
Cary, NC & New York - A4 Health Systems, a provider of healthcare IT solutions, announces Lenox Hill Hospital in New York, N.Y., has selected both the HealthMatics ED Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) and Canopy Care Management solution to improve hospital staff workflow and heighten the quality of patient care. The two A4 systems will integrate with existing hospital information systems as well as with each other to provide enhanced communication within the hospital to better manage high-risk patients, streamline admissions and improve access to critical patient information.
Lenox Hill Hospital (LHH), a 652-bed acute care hospital with more than 40,000 annual ED visits, sought a state-of-the art clinical and administrative information system for emergency care to complement its newly renovated, soon-to-open, 15,750 square-foot Emergency Department. Lenox Hill Hospital realized HealthMatics ED would provide dynamic patient tracking, thorough electronic documentation of patient information for nurses and physicians and full integration with the hospital's ADT system by Siemens(R), bed tracking system by TeleTracking, and Radiology and Lab information systems by Misys.
"After extensive investigation, the hospital selected A4's Healthmatics ED as the electronic medical record information system for our Emergency Department," said Tom Linhares, vice president of Operations at Lenox Hill Hospital. "We are convinced that automating emergency services with Healthmatics ED will streamline operations, more effectively handle patient information and ultimately improve the quality of patient care in the ED."
Additionally, Lenox Hill Hospital selected A4's Canopy Care Management solution to optimize patient care, maximize authorizations and payments from payors, and create a more efficient and organized Case Management Department. Specifically, Lenox Hill will implement Canopy UM Utilization Management for denial management, Canopy CM Case Management for care coordination and Canopy QM Quality Management to improve outcomes at Lenox Hill Hospital and Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, a subsidiary of LHH.
"As part of our continuous effort to improve the care management of our patients at Lenox Hill Hospital, we have also chosen the Canopy system to support our case managers and social workers in tracking the appropriateness of hospitalizations, identifying criteria for continued stay and supporting the patient's safe and appropriate discharge," said Linhares.
The interface between HealthMatics ED and Canopy will provide a significant communications improvement between the Emergency and Case Management Departments to help improve patient care and throughput. First, the ED can alert the case management department of a possible or definite admission-- while providing the pertinent ED chart information-- so case managers can begin the admission review process. Second, Canopy will flag high-risk ED patients within HealthMatics ED so emergency physicians can more timely and appropriately address critical cases.
"We believe that the ability to follow both the current hospitalization and previous admissions of our patients will help provide efficient and appropriate care from the initial ED registration throughout the entire hospital stay," added Linhares.
