Nueterra Healthcare Chooses McKesson's Paragon Community HIS For Three-Hospital Initiative

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nueterra Healthcare (Leawood, Kan.) has chosen to implement award-winning healthcare information technology from McKesson in three community hospitals that it is building. Nueterra selected the Paragon® community healthcare information system (HIS) to provide integrated, comprehensive electronic health records (EHR) and financial management systems for each hospital. Additionally the hospitals will implement Horizon Medical Imaging™ picture archiving and communications system (PACS) to provide electronic access to medical images and reports. The three hospitals in Great Bend, Kan.; McKinney, Texas; and Fremont, Calif., are the first community hospitals to be developed and managed by Nueterra.

"Superior technology is the key enabler to seamlessly documenting, sharing and managing patient information for high-quality care delivery," said Michael McCoy, president of the Community Hospital Division at Nueterra Healthcare. "In addition, we need a health IT solution that can be flexible enough to meet the needs of each of our hospitals in their local communities. McKesson's Paragon is a perfect match for us, and we're excited about not only building state-of-the-art facilities, but also equipping the medical staff with systems to help them provide care more efficiently and effectively."

The Paragon solution offers an affordable yet robust integrated financial and clinical solution to address the specific needs of a community hospital setting. An electronic charting system will help streamline the charting and billing process at the hospitals by providing immediate access to important patient information whenever and wherever the care team needs it. Point-of-care applications, such as bar-code medication scanning and automatic documentation of medication administration, are designed to ensure that physicians and nurses have the tools they need to provide the safest care possible in the hospitals. The McKesson PACS will provide secure, electronic access to medical images and reports for faster treatment time.

"Nueterra Healthcare's selection of the Paragon solution speaks to McKesson's ability to provide a modern and easy-to-use system for the community hospital market," said James Pesce, McKesson's senior vice president and general manager for Paragon. "We're honored that Nueterra has chosen McKesson as its information technology partner for this important initiative in three markets across the country."

McKesson will work with Nueterra as the three hospitals are built to implement the medical imaging and HIS technology. Since the Paragon system is a Microsoft-based program, familiar Windows computer screens should help ease training once the hospitals open. "Most people in the world use PCs everyday, and when you open Paragon, it looks like your computer screen at home," said McCoy. "It has a similar look and feel to what the staff is already used to, which should help them learn to use the system faster."

According to McCoy, trust and ease in doing business were additional reasons for partnering with McKesson. "McKesson and its people have been responsive, honest, and easy to work with," he said. "That was a big factor for us – we've developed a trust with the company and its representatives, and we enjoy working with them."
