Ottawa Regional Hospital And Healthcare Center Selects Allscripts To Automate And Connect Its Physician Offices, Emergency Department And Home Care Providers
Chicago, IL and Ottawa, lL - Allscripts announced recently that Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center selected a comprehensive suite of Allscripts solutions to electronically connect its providers across all of its care settings, from the Emergency Room to physician offices to the hospital's home health network, as a way to deliver higher quality, coordinated healthcare to its patients.
Ottawa Regional is a non-profit healthcare organization located southwest of Chicago that is anchored by Ottawa Regional Hospital (a 118-licensed bed facility) and includes a medical staff of 160 physicians, its own medical group and a home health care network. Allscripts will deploy and connect three major solutions across Ottawa Regional's network: the Allscripts Professional Electronic Health Record and Practice Management solution; Allscripts ED(R) Emergency Department Information System and Allscripts Homecare.
"With this agreement, Ottawa Regional is staking out our leadership by leveraging the best available technology to remove paper-based information bottlenecks from healthcare," said Robert Chaffin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center. "Nothing is more important to us than quality patient care and with the help of Allscripts, we are connecting our medical staff and our home care providers, ensuring they have all the information they need to deliver safer, higher quality, more coordinated care across all of our settings."
John Maynard, Ottawa Regional's Information Technology Director, said the organization spent over a year evaluating technology from a variety of vendors before selecting Allscripts, largely based on physician feedback. He said he was most impressed by the functionality shared across Allscripts systems and the ability to connect all of it together.
"It's clear that Allscripts not only has a strong vision for connecting healthcare but that they're delivering on it every day," Maynard said. "Together, we hope to improve the quality of care we provide for our community by connecting providers to the right information at the right time, no matter what setting they work in."
Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts, commented, "Ottawa Regional is a great example of a leading healthcare organization that is investing in the future of healthcare. It's exciting for us to partner with an organization that believes so strongly in the value of using information technology, not only to automate its physicians but to connect them to better information to allow them to make higher quality decisions in a more cost effective way."
Ottawa Regional's employed physicians and the hospital's medical/surgical unit will implement Allscripts Professional Electronic Health Record and Practice Management. The Electronic Health Record provides caregivers instant and secure access to the complete patient record anytime and anywhere, while automating everyday clinical tasks and connecting physicians to pharmacies, laboratories and other healthcare stakeholders. The Practice Management solution improves the productivity of administrative staff, simplifies patient record keeping, streamlines billing and improves cash flow, with the industry's most user-friendly interface and extensible design.
As part of their deployment, Ottawa will deploy Allscripts Assure Disaster Recovery, an automatic data recovery solution that securely stores up-to-date patient information remotely for easy access during emergencies.
In the Emergency Department (ED), Ottawa Regional will streamline all processes including tracking, triage, nurse and physician charting, disposition and reporting using Allscripts ED(R). Integrated features of the system include "one-click" access to individual patient charts, the ability to view multiple charts simultaneously, to track the entire patient treatment experience at a single glance, and alerts that notify the clinician of overdue treatment times, medication conflicts and conflicting orders.
Allscripts Remote Chart Access will enable community caregivers and hospital staff to securely access an ED patient's chart via the Web without logging into the ED solution. To provide ED physicians with immediate access to many patients' medical histories and medication lists - information that most ED patients provide verbally but not always accurately - Ottawa Regional will connect Allscripts ED to Allscripts Professional EHR. And to ensure that providers in all settings have access to the latest patient information, Allscripts ED and Allscripts Professional EHR will exchange information with Ottawa Regional's Meditech inpatient information systems. These connections deliver instant access to lab results, radiology reports and other up-to-date information, creating a seamless information handoff for patients who are admitted to the hospital from the ED or referred to their physician's office after being discharged from the hospital.
For its 25 home care providers, Ottawa Regional is implementing Allscripts Homecare, designed to improve clinical quality of care, financial performance, and operational control for large, integrated home care organizations and small home care companies. Business, clinical, and scheduling functionality for multiple lines of business - home health, hospice, and private duty - are combined seamlessly in one integrated home care software system.
