Rice Memorial Hospital Selects MEDHOST EDIS To Ensure Accurate Documentation And Quality Patient Care

ADDISON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MEDHOST, provider of the leading Emergency Department Information System (EDIS), today announced that Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minn., has selected MEDHOST's software for its emergency department (ED) as part of its hospital-wide efforts to switch to electronic documentation, ensure efficient patient care, and increase patient safety and satisfaction. The hospital chose MEDHOST because the system is easy to use, flexible and offers an intuitive touch screen design, which makes it easy for physicians and nurses to document care and access patient information.

Rice Memorial Hospital will install MEDHOST's latest release, version 4.1, which integrates The Sullivan Group's patented and industry-leading Patient Risk and Safety module as well as First DataBank's OrderView Med Knowledge Base. This feature-rich version includes powerful decision support functionality, point-of-care risk alerts and CPOE-ready drug content that allows physicians to quickly, yet accurately order medications. MEDHOST 4.1 furthers patient safety initiatives by reducing risk and adverse drug events.

"We were very impressed with the value the risk mitigation content offers and felt that an electronic system with these features would help us heighten our patient care and safety," said Dr. George Gordon, chief medical officer at Rice Memorial Hospital. "With MEDHOST's EDIS, physicians receive critical alerts and can access decision support at the point of care, which drives better patient outcomes."

As part of the hospital's efforts to shift away from paper documentation, clinicians at Rice Memorial Hospital will use MEDHOST to electronically enter and access patient information in real time anywhere in the ED. MEDHOST's intuitive system eliminates excessive typing and is free of cumbersome drop down menus, so clinicians can quickly document patient care using its unique touch screen interface.

"We chose MEDHOST because their full suite of products aligns with our mission of delivering excellence in each department. Their electronic tracking module delivers a unique, dynamic and interactive view of the ED, and the touch screen design enables quick and accurate documentation," said Kathy Hunt, emergency department director at Rice Memorial Hospital. "MEDHOST's system also allows real time changes on site with its ToolKit customization tool, as opposed to waiting for a vendor to make adjustments, which is important in a fast paced setting such as an emergency department."

"We are proud to aid Minnesota's largest city-owned hospital in its efforts to provide outstanding patient care in its emergency department," said Craig Herrod, president and CEO of MEDHOST. "MEDHOST's EDIS enhances patient safety with risk management tools that prompt clinicians of critical solutions in real time. The face of emergency medicine is changing because progressive hospitals like Rice are choosing the best technologies to dramatically improve patient care."

MEDHOST currently serves more than 160 facilities, including the Baylor Healthcare System in Texas, Catholic Healthcare West in California, Catholic Health System in New York and Tenet Healthcare Corporation. MEDHOST is the preferred EDIS provider of VHA Inc., a national cooperative serving more than 2,400 not-for-profit healthcare organizations. MEDHOST easily integrates with leading hospital information systems, including MEDITECH, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson.
