Rivulet And ConMed Agreement Will Provide High-Definition Video From The OR Throughout Hospital Campuses

Herndon, VA - Rivulet Communications, whose technology dramatically improves the performance of Ethernet and IP networks, recently announced that it has entered into a reseller agreement with ConMed Integrated Systems, whose Smart OR solution provides control over the entire Operating Room (OR) including data management, communication and networking capabilities. The agreement, which entitles ConMed to resell the complete suite of Rivulet's networking products, enables ConMed to move high definition, standard definition, and computer video out of the operating room to locations throughout the hospital campus.

"More and more, hospital groups are asking us to deliver high definition video throughout their facilities and campuses to support their requirements for teaching and collaboration", said Sam Gordon, ConMed Integrated Systems General Manager. "Rivulet's solutions allow us to answer this need by delivering high quality HD, SD, and computer video cost effectively over long distances using the hospitals' existing IT infrastructure. Additional benefits include the ability to record this video for on-demand playback over the hospital network and the ability to view this video from computers anywhere on the hospital network."

"Rivulet's healthcare solutions are drawing attention from hospitals large and small," said Ed Kennedy, CEO of Rivulet Communications. "The concept of medical-grade video anywhere on the network has broad appeal, but until now it's been elusive. Today, that concept is a reality, with patented delivery technology tuned for medical environments."

Hospitals can find many applications for medical-grade video anywhere on the network. Surgical teams can demonstrate new procedures in real time to a room full of specialists or medical students. Live two-way video interactions between pathology and the OR can improve knowledge transfer and decision making. Specialists can conduct visual consultations without leaving their offices, viewing high quality video on ordinary desktop PC's. Video stored on the network can be edited for teaching presentations or can become part of the patient record. Video can further improve surgical techniques by allowing doctors to review cases stored in an on-line video library using the PCs in their offices.

Rivulet's high quality video is high-resolution imagery free of compression artifacts, in a format that enables extraction of sharp individual frames, delivered in real-time with low latency. In the past, transport of video outside the OR required compromise. Maintaining quality meant sacrificing coverage area, using an expensive dedicated network that delivered video only where cable was pulled. Higher coverage area over the network meant sacrificing quality, using traditional compression techniques. Now, the IP video network product suite and patented technology from Rivulet marks the first time high quality, high definition video has been possible over existing IP networks, resulting in substantially lower costs and increased ubiquity.
