Specimen Identification And Tracking System
Patient, specimen, and blood components are uniquely identified, and the system features a complete audit trail and database for reporting. It allows one health care provider to use electronic verification as a second check before administration of blood and blood components.
A portable data terminal scans the patient's wristband at the bedside. Specimen labels are printed or verified for the patient sample and requisition at the bedside using a portable printer. An automated system performs ABO/Rh and antibody screenings on the patient's sample and electronically transfers results to the laboratory information system.
As well as dealing with sample management and testing, the system can also aid in the administration of blood and blood components, such as blood banks.
