Pos-ID is a specimen identification system that is designed to assure the permanent link between patient and laboratory specimen to prevent sample identification errors. At the time of specimen collection, the healthcare professional identifies the patient by scanning their bar coded wristband with a portable data terminal (PDT). The product then displays the patient's draw list from the laboratory information system (LIS) on the PDT's screen and generates a matching specimen tube label for each sample to be drawn.

Data printed on the label includes patient and collector, test name and tube type along with the time and date of collection. Special features include rescheduling draws, canceling draws, adding specimens, deleting specimens, merging draws, and handling emergency draws. After verification by the system, the data is captured and transmitted to the LIS for accurate tracking and reporting of the specimen.
