The NOW test for Streptococcus pneumoniae provides immediate test results, allowing specific treatment to begin right away. Earlier diagnosis allows rational and targeted antibiotic therapy, thus controlling antibiotic overuse and antibiotic resistance. In addition, specific therapy maximizes the opportunity for recovery and shortens hospital stays.
The test uses ICT technology, which requires a urine sample (urinary antigen test) to determine the presence or absence of S. pneumoniae. This creates a high level of patient comfort, as no invasive procedure is necessary to obtain a test sample.
