The Housecall Transtelephonic Monitoring System is the only system in the world capable of downloading over the telephone a complete set of diagnostic data and programmed parameters from an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). ICDs are devices that deliver a range of electrical therapies, ranging from mild stimulation to more powerful shocks, to stop dangerous heart rhythms (like ventricular tachycardia and fibrillation) that can quickly become life-threatening. Patients with these devices will now be able to transmit data from their home to a Raytel facility, which will prepare a detailed report for the patient's physician.

Using a simple transmitter and their home telephone, pacemaker recipients send basic information describing their pacemaker's operation to a monitoring service, where technicians analyze the data and send a report to the patient's physician. This data provides a detailed picture of the interaction between the ICD and the patient's heart, and furnish valuable information for making any necessary programming changes. This type of download would normally require a clinic visit, where a technician would use a programmer to interrogate the ICD, print out the data, and forward it to the physician for analysis.

A typical data transmission takes only minutes, and physicians gain efficiency by having a detailed summary or a complete report prepared by Raytel's staff of certified technicians and cardiologists.
